The 6:22 Community

6:22 has always been hard to define. But about seven years into this thing we realized the word that answered "What is 6:22?" was community. Here is how God made that clear.

In August of 2009, our board of directors ate lunch with our newly formed advisory counsel. We were trying to sort out what God was doing by giving us our own building in downtown Greenville. An amazing worship leader friend on the advisory counsel brought forth a crucial prophetic word at this meeting. He said God was shifting 6:22 from being a “blessing ministry to a building ministry.” This word not only applied to the fact that we now had the Boiler Room - a literal building given to us by God. This shift would also affect how we would our ministry’s function. Rather than hosting transient worship and prayer events in various churches, we would now be uniting as a more sustainable ecumenical community that would be an even greater blessing in the long-term.

That fall of 2009 we officially changed our mission statement to a purpose statement that finally defined 6:22 as "a creative community of undignified Jesus-lovers." Our mission become "uniting students in day and night worship and prayer through music and the arts." This massive vision of non-stop worship would undoubtedly require a more consistent, grounded community. This mission of worship and prayer would also be the thing that would gather the people that make up the community. If your idea of community is primarily eating out, watching movies and parties, then the 6:22 community will probably fail to meet your expectations. We don’t rally around social events, but around Jesus. Sure, we love a good feast, but we also love a good fast. We also pray and worship A LOT. And if God has called you to do these things, that you will feel at home with us. We are on a mission to see Jesus worshiped collectively 24/7 on earth as in heaven. We believe it is one of the keys to revival. God is building a community to make this thing happen. Will you join us?
